When and Where Can We Fish?

I concentrate on
five species: walleyes, muskies, salmon, bass and pike. The
different seasons offer better fishing for some species and not so
great for others. By optimizing seasonal changes of fish patterns we
can enjoy a quality experience and a higher number of fish caught.
Trophy fishing opportunities in the spring are short in comparison to
late summer and fall fishing. We can plan a trip based on your goals
and desires.

When can we fish?

April, May and June
The schools of Coho Salmon return to the northern shores of Illinois
and offer great action this time of year. From the ports of Waukegan
or Winthrop Harbor IL. The fish are readily accessible, aggressive and
provide a lot of fun. Unlike the larger charter boats I limit the trip
to two people and use walleye trolling rods to increase the thrill.
You will find the trip more personal and affordable.
We shouldn’t ignore Lake Erie for
Walleye at this time of year. Normally good action and some nice size
fish for that Kodak moment. The Illinois chain of lakes offers fast
walleye action early in the year with fish in the 14 to 18” range.
As we move into May and June, you
may want to try for a musky on the Chain. By June our local lakes are
warming and Lake Geneva bass fishing becomes very good. Salmon will
still be accessible on Lake Michigan.

June, July and August
Musky action is very good in Hayward WI. July is my favorite month for
Lake Vermilion, MN. Muskies. The evening action can set your heart
racing. The pike in Lake Geneva start in August.. so many fish –so
little time.
August, September, October & November
This is the best time of year. Recreational boating starts to subside,
temperatures start to cool and fish, big fish! start their seasonal
transition. northern pike on Geneva, smallmouth and walleyes on the
Great Lakes, muskies on the feed everywhere. This is a great time to
be on the water.
